Loanword Stems
This is the help file for the Loanword Stems guide.
This window appears as a guide to help typing loanwords such as English, Lao, and Thai when the
Autocomplete checkbox is checked and after typing the grave accent (`).
All the items shown in the table are populated dynamically from the available audio stem files
recorded and stored inside the selected Hmong voice used to read text aloud.
Refer to the picture below showing the table.
How To Type Loanwords
- Make sure the Autocomplete checkbox is checked. This allows the loanword guide window to appear automatically while typing.
- After typing the grave accent (`), type the one or two letters under the Letters column as needed. Each item under the Stem File column corresponds to its letter(s) under the Letters column.
- Examples:
- kis`n = “to eat” (Lao)
- hev`d = “to do” (Lao)
- khauj`ch = “coach” (English)
- phiv`k = “pick” (English)
- phij`ch = “peach” (English)
- It is recommended not to use this for compound loanwords because they will not be read properly.
Note: During text-to-speech, the software automatically overlaps and blends the audio stem samples with the main word. You do not need to manually insert the stem file into the text—just type the correct letter(s) after the grave accent.
